PCL Net. Early checkin from Bob, K4GBE.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Rick, Carl,
Glenn, Rick,and whoever else shows up.
Our next net holiday is on Monday, April 6
for Easter week. The PCL will be off that
night.
I was on Arkansas Skywarn duty for 7 hours
on The Ides Of March. I didn't get any
lightning here, but I was transmitting
numerous severe thunderstorm and some tornado
warnings over RF. The National Weather Service
confirmed an EF-1 tornado in northeast Arkansas,
and the storms really got going once they got
east of Little Rock. We were below freezing this
morning, and will be again Tuesday morning; but
by Saturday, we may hit 90. I guess we'll get all
4 seasons in 1 week (hi hi). At least we didn't
get a blizzard with whiteout conditions, 2-3 feet
of snow, and 60 mph winds, like the Dakotas, Iowa,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, did.
I went out today to get several items notarized,
regarding some stock and other items that my late
Mom and late brother had. I will scan them in on
Tuesday, and create a PDF file for export to "The
Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt". If all goes well,
I'll get money for the Huntsville Hamfest trip in
August. I will likely use it for transportation
and food, but may get a few items or prize tickets,
since both the bus ticket and hotel room are paid
for, as is my Friday night pre-hamfest buffet. It
may take a few months to get, but as long as I have
it by August, I'll be happy.
We had a great exam session this past Saturday;
getting 2 new Technicians, 2 upgrades to General,
and 2 upgrades to Amateur Extra. I created a PDF
to send to ARRL/VEC (which I did after the severe
weather last night), but found out they are not
answering calls on Monday. Two individuals paid by
check, and the rest in cash...so I had to mail off
the checks today, and put the cash in the bank for
them to debit out. My aunt sent me $20 for my 66th
birthday on Sunday, but I discovered that I had made
a math error in my bank book. So, I paused both the
Walmart and YouTube subscriptions, so I wouldn't be
overdrawn; although I thought of "I can't be overdrawn;
I still have checks" (hi hi).
A fellow ham, who got his Extra on Saturday, was "my
driver" today; and he was surprised that one of the
area libraries offered free notary service. So, I
told him the next time he needs that, to come and get
me, and we can do that, hit the post office box, and
go get lunch at Golden Corral. He said it cost him
nearly $20 for his last notary needs, and free was
obviously much better. I'm glad he had my extra Post
Office Box key, as I had swapped mine off my keychain,
and I forgot to put it back on...only now needing the
keys for the front door, the safe deposit box, and the
post office box. H.A.M. -- Haven't Any Memory (hi hi).
Speaking of food, after the exam session I did this
past Saturday, one of my fellow VE's had to go down to
Benton, about 20 miles to the southwest of Little Rock,
to buy an amp from a fellow ham...then we went to this
all you can eat buffet, called "The Wood Grille". Today,
I had a "free birthday buffet coupon" for Golden Corral,
but I stuck to the spaghetti, meat loaf, buttered rolls,
then had banana pudding and cake for my dessert, washed
down with several glasses of sweet tea. H.A.M. -- Have
Another Meal (hi hi). I think of the redneck memes where
he has this huge plastic trashcan, with a coffee pot like
spigot on the side, and a big sign noting "Sweet Tea".
Another one said "he had to call the Poison Control
Center", as someone gave him some unsweetened tea (hi hi).
I got my $100 gift card from my HMO for doing a survey,
and will use it toward stuff from Papa John's Pizza. While
I'm still on the diet of the tuna salad sandwiches and
chicken nuggets, the pizza will be a nice change. I need
to lose some weight, but I guess I'm preparing for the winter
hibernation already (hi hi).

An uneventful week.
Regarding schizophrenic weather - I was out without a jacket
mid-day cleaning twigs and stuff from the yard. Now it's 33
and heavy snow!
Regarding birthdays - since I'll have one this year, I bought
myself a new guitar with that as the excuse! hihi I'm sure
when my birthday gets here I'll think of something else.
Our local Winlink node has lost it's network connection, so
I've resorted to telnet logins on Winlink today to check
messages. Still working on Hamword.
I've exhausted my learning of Meshastic I think. Time to move
on to something else! Is that ham radio A.D.D. ???

Bob (NY), that's crazy on the weather. As for birthday stuff,
the ham radio trip is my present. I just checked my Winlink
via telnet before the net, and they have a new version of RMS
Express. There are several new funny memes from the Ham Radio
Funnies group I need to add to the file, but I may do that on
Tuesday. I discovered several errors on the ham radio info page
off my homepage, so I had to fix those.

We had three inches of snow last night and today, temp is currently
36F.
Nothing exciting to report for the past two weeks... yeah, I missed
last week as well.
I've just been doing the usual 40M and 20M PACTOR, taking care of
the wife (her knee is healing nicely ), and reading. Trying to exercise
more by doing walks in the morning and early afternoon.
As I mentioned, nothing exciting to report, so that's about it. Just
waiting for winter to end...
Temp is supposed to hit 60F tomorrow, or the next day...I'll believe it
when I see it.

Rick, first, just make it when you can. It's 37 here, but it'll be 23 by
morning. FB on the ham radio stuff, and the XYL's knee surgery recovery.
As for the temps, it's like the forecast...I'll believe it when I see it.

It is the nice time of year here, so I have been taking my HT out on the
back porch for the morning net here. It is very pleasant. Soon, though,
it will be too hot I am afraid.
I managed to find and sign up for Skywarn training this year. I had a
spotter number when I was in Florida, but with the retirement and move
last year, I missed the training sessions. I am glad I remembered to sign
up this year. I will be official again once I get to the training class
in April.
Not too much else going on here. Trying to enjoy the weather while it is
nice. I took lunch up to a local park one day last week and will likely do
that again this week.
I have a couple of ebay finds coming that will give me some old electronics
to fix. Looking forward to that. Oh, also ordered a portable vertical from
Radiodity. That might be fun for a POTA session sometime.

Carl, I saw the Extreme Heat Warnings in parts of Arizona. Heat stress
levels may soon be a problem here.
FB on the ebay finds and the portable vertical antenna. I need to do the
online Skywarn Training again, but the NWS Little Rock knows who I am,
and as noted, I was doing Skywarn operations for 7 hours yesterday.

Not to much new this week, just busy with TPRFN we are up to 22 full time
Hub Stations. Also with the PKTNET as it is running this week as well. I
have been struggling with the reporting Software I have been using for the
last year or so. So, with a little help from AI I created my own Python
logging program that sends log to Google Maps. So far it is working well
48 hours in we are at 87 check-ins.
I have given up on Meshtastic not seeing much use for it, so I have loaded
Kiss firmware on them and testing them as portable access to my BBS, they
work ok. The better option will be IP400 which is now working with kiss and
almost ready to connect to BPQ and see how it does.

GE, Just working on the node....It crashed today when a large outbound group of
messages clashed with an incoming stream... Now my Mail dir say 822 or so
messages and my list says 117 or so....
Otherwise just busy with the company I work with and dealing with some PE folks
that are just gems.... BTU

Wayne, bummer on the node crash...I have to check my telnet BBS to be sure a
Windows deal didn't crash it. GL getting it fixed.

I have been seeing NWS heat warnings most every day, but honestly where I am we
only get up to the low 90s, and that is only for a couple of hours in the early
afternoon. So, where I am the weather is pretty good right now. That will
change, of course.

Flooding isn't an issue for me, but lightning is. I'm thankful I didn't have
