Comments on making general contacts=C2=A0=20
=C2=A0
I have been seeing a lot of traffic on Facebook and I suspect on other social=
media sites with people asking why they are not hearing the crew make genera=
l contacts.=C2=A0 First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply =
may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk.=C2=A0 Also, on=
e needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule.=C2=A0 I have listed below=
the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the sch=
ool contacts.=C2=A0 Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportu=
nities.

Typical daily schedule
Wakeup to Workday start=3D 1.5 hours
Workday start to Workday end=3D12 hours
Workday end to Sleep=3D 2 hours
Sleep to wakeup=3D 8.5 hours

The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 =E2=80=93 19:30 UTC. The most common =
times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after wa=
king up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They=
're usually free most of the weekend, as well.

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeki=
ng formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually=
or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on =
board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between July =
1, 2026 and December 31, 2026. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine =
the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS=
is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants an=
d integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan.

The deadline to submit a proposal is February 27, 2026.=C2=A0 Proposal inform=
ation and more details such as expectations, proposal guidelines and the prop=
