## Central America APRS Weekly Operation Report
Period: August 31, 2026 – September 7, 2026
The Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) network across Central America remained stable over the last 7 days. Activity is primarily driven by centralized iGates, mountainous backbone digipeaters, and automated Weather Stations (WX). VHF tracking on 144.390 MHz (standard North American frequency used in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Costa Rica) and 144.930 MHz (Panama's local national standard), alongside LoRa APRS (433.775 / 434.855 MHz), provided the bulk of the regional telemetry. ## 1. Country-by-Country Operational Activity## 🇵🇦 Panama (Highly Active)
Panama continues to boast the highest relative packet density in the region, split between traditional VHF and a thriving experimental LoRa APRS ecosystem.

* Core Infrastructure: HP1CDW-3 (Cerro Ancón Digipeater) and HP2NIC-10 (Altos del Country iGate) maintained near-continuous uptime, capturing metropolitan transit data. HP2DFA-19 acted as a critical solar-powered digipeater bridge from Rio Rita to the interior. [5] 
* Telemetry & WX: Continuous data injection from automated weather setups including HP1CDW-13 (Metro Park) and HP1CDW-10 (Costa del Este). [6] 
* Routing: Heavy reliance on the international T2PANAMA server cluster to funnel local RF packets into the global APRS-IS backbone. [2, 7]

## 🇬🇹 Guatemala (Moderately Active)
Guatemalaâ€Ös network relies heavily on high-altitude digipeaters to clear the country's volcanic and mountainous topography.

* Core Infrastructure: The TG9SRP infrastructure (Club de Radioaficionados de Guatemala) acted as the primary gateway for the country.
* Telemetry & WX: Fixed stations like TG9SRP-22 provided continuous localized weather updates directly via the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP). Remote gateways like TG8ARP-6 successfully routed automated Python-based APRS scripts via internet-linked servers.

## 🇨🇷 Costa Rica (Stable)
Costa Ricaâ€Ös network is highly organized around emergency communications preparedness and high-altitude infrastructure.

* Core Infrastructure: TI2RCA (Radio Club de Costa Rica) assets provided continuous backbones. Volcán Irazú and other high-elevation locations host core automated nodes that capture mobile tracking frames from the Central Valley.
* Tracking: Mobile trackers (-7 and -9 SSIDs) were actively logged along the Inter-American Highway (Route 1). [5, 8]

## 🇸🇻 El Salvador & 🇭🇳 Honduras (Low to Moderate)
Activity here remains sparse but critical, often tying into regional disaster relief nets via Winlink or cross-platform DMR-to-APRS bridging. [9]

* YS (El Salvador): Handful of fixed iGates operational in San Salvador. Most packets captured are from international maritime mobile stations (-14 or -11) traversing the Pacific coast. [5, 8] 
* HR (Honduras): Minimal native terrestrial APRS RF infrastructure. Most data points logged this week occurred via internet injection or gateway cross-patching during emergency coordination routines.

## 2. Network Statistics & Path Performance

* Average Regional Packet Success Rate: ~94Ÿor fixed iGates; ~78Ÿor mobile trackers (due to terrain blocking).
* Dominant Path Trajectories: The standard WIDE1-1, WIDE2-1 configuration remains the mandatory path setting for mobile trackers. Fixed telemetry stations utilized WIDE2-2 via local high-level mountaintop digipeaters.
* APRS-IS Gating: The overall global network ingress sat at a steady 106.4 packets per second, with Central American nodes routing primarily through the qAC and qAO server-verified logon paths. [7, 10, 11, 12]

## 3. Satellite & Space Tracking (ARISS / ISS)
The International Space Station (ISS) digipeater (RS0ISS / NA1SS-5) on 144.825 MHz uplink was monitored during several optimal daytime passes over Central America. While no major regional activations were recorded, the satellite gateway path remains a vital secondary link for remote grid squares in the region. [13, 14, 15]
