The main weather surveillance and alerts in Central America for tomorrow, September 12, 2026, remain active in the face of the high risk of flash floods, landslides and severe thunderstorms. The critical saturation of the soils by the rains of the last days and the instability of the monsoon trough force to keep the following official warnings active:
ܠ️ Official alerts by country

Panama: Sinaproc and IMHPA extend the Warning of Surveillance for significant rains and storms on both coasts and the interior of the country. There is a warning of accumulations of high water, gusts of wind and strong electrical activity, with an emphasis of risk in Colón, Bocas del Toro and the Ngäbe-Buglé region.

Guatemala: INSIVUMEH maintains alerts for severe local storms in the afternoon. The main warnings focus on the volcanic chain in the face of the imminent formation of lahars, and on the Central Altiplano by road collapses due to moisture-saturated terrain.

Costa Rica: The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) and the CNE support Earth Slip Surveillance in mountain sectors. Alerts (Yellow for the Pacific and Central Valley) prioritize monitoring of rapid response basins against short-lived torrential vestrooms.

El Salvador: The Ministry of Environment (MARN) issues a warning of attention for heavy rains with wind gusts above 35 km/h towards the end of the afternoon, concentrating the danger in the northern mountain range and the central volcanic strip.

ܫ Mandatory Security Measures

Do not attempt to cross rivers, gorges or flooded streets under any circumstances.
Stay away from electric poles, isolated trees and metal structures if lightning strikes are recorded.
Reduce speed on roads to patches of morning fog or wet asphalt.
